The Dallas Morning News features A W.I.S.H. project: Woodson Place
Green Home on the Range, August 10, 2007

A W.I.S.H is a formal intervener before the California Public Utility Commission proceedings on the California Solar Initiative (CSI) as it relates to the hundreds of millions of dollars budgeted for solar energy for the state's low-income households; and for the docket on the Low Income Energy Efficiency Program (LIEE) to re-look at the hundreds of millions of dollars spent per year by the investor owned utilities in California on energy efficiency for low-income homes. A W.I.S.H is partnering with Susan Brown, esq. former member of the Low-Income Governing Board. Michael Karp, A W.I.S.H President and CEO who was a consultant to the CPUC on low-income energy issues during the restructuring of the electric industry, is leading the intervention.

A W.I.S.H. has added three new Affiliates: Liberia and California, and most recently Nepal.

Project Reorganization: AMUTAT HALEVAV, Center for Healthy Living

The Galilee Restoration Project has been reorganized under the Israeli non-profit organization Amutat Halevav: Center for Healthy Living in Tzfat.. The Center is dedicated to improving community life in Tzfat and the Upper Galilee through the environment, natural health and traditional practices.

New Project: GRANITOS DE ARENA

Granitos de Arena is working with organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors to create different social and/or environmental projects in the rural area of the south of the Mexican state of Jalisco that will enable the region to develop in a more sustainable way.

New Project: SUSTASIS FOUNDATION

The Sustasis Foundation is developing three projects with a focus on bringing people and resources together in collaboration to meet the challenges of the future: Neighborhood Center Development Project, Environmental Structure Research Group and the USA Chapter of International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism.

New Project: SOCIAL ECOLOGY DEFENSE

In conjunction with the new A W.I.S.H. Nepal Affiliate, the Social Ecology Defense project is promoting sustainable development in Nepal and the surrounding region, working with all levels of government, NGOs, private and state run companies, academia, and the general public, in order to foster democratic decision-making.

New Project: THE SOLET INITIATIVE

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, the Solet Initiative supports the growth of vibrant sustainable communities and businesses, both locally and globally, through network and organizational development, educational and cultural events, and media productions.

New Project: THE QUESTION BOX

A project of Open Mind, The Question Box is a pilot project in rural India which promotes access to the internet through an interactive village intercom system.

New Project: ACTION IN SUSTAINABILITY

Action in Sustainability is a community-based project which demonstrates how our human resource demands can be managed within ecological constraints. Using an inter-disciplinary process, we can specifically assess risk to human health from resource use practices, and explore the similarities and interactions between our human needs and those of the ecosystems in which we all must live together.

New Project: COMMUNITY SOUL

Community Soul is a growing alliance of yoga studios, teachers and students who are dedicated to using their practice – and their business – to contribute to sustainability both in their local communities and around the world. Members of Community Soul commit to raising money, awareness, and support for sustainable projects that do not have access to traditional sources of funding or outreach.

New Project: OSMOSIS/THE NAPKIN PROJECT

Osmosis is an organization that designs and implements public education campaigns around the world. Osmosis' first program is titled "The Napkin Project" and will begin in Fortaleza, Brazil in June 2007. Our goal is to facilitate the spread of public health information on printed napkins.

New Project: NOMADS UNITED

Nomads United is an organization that has crossed countries on horseback throughout the world since 1998. Integrated by more than 300 people, from more than 30 nationalities, that collaborate, live and learn to create a wave of environmental conscience, a social current, focused in stimulating values of sustainability.

New Project: INSTITUTE FOR CITIZEN JOURNALISM

ICJ aims to bridge the gap between the mainstream media and the people's stories by enabling members of civil society to gain access to broader media skills and platforms and use these mechanisms more effectively to express their voices.

New Project: COMMON THREADS FARM

Our mission at Common Threads Farm is to promote thoughtful engagement in sustainable food and energy systems through hands-on, farm-based educational programs.

New Project: SUSTAINABILITY RESEARCH PROJECT

Since its inception, The Sustainability Project has envisioned, developed, and successfully established a wide variety of projects that actively demonstrate working modes of sustainability. We work at home and abroad to learn and share knowledge of simple, sustainable practices through hands-on teaching, demonstrations, and educational experiences.
